Textile Art

Since I was trained as a textile designer, exploration of fabric and textiles are a part of my language of expression anywhere. My work in art is partly inspired by my love for textiles and the processes that are a part of textile techniques. My experience and exposure working with eminent fashion and textile labels in India and abroad also contributes to my understanding. Though I have explored textile as a medium of expression at the beginning of my career as an artist and moved onto painting quite quickly, it remains the continuous thread that flows through all of my work. Details in my paintings are reminiscent of the careful and minute characteristics that can be found on hand crafted textiles. I love working with old family photographs printed digitally onto fabric, antique and found textiles and fragments. I like to use stitching, hand embroidery, pleating, applique, to create textural pieces. I like collecting leaves, roots, flowers, etc. to stitch them up intuitively to form pieces that deteriorate in time.
